Sensei Sean and I recently attended the 2018 Senior World Karate Championships in Madrid, Spain. Two weeks of intense training and coaching - it was an honour to be part of senior national coaching team. A great bunch of athletes, and a great experience coaching the Australian womens team kumite at the senior worlds. Continue the hard work, training, and committment. Well done everyone!

The highlight of the competition was seeing Riana and Olivia in the finals of the Womens Open - the blue ribbon event!

As the head coach for the kumite team it was a pleasure to see our athletes do what they do in training!

Last week, in preparation for our upcoming National Championships, Seiha hosted Antonio Oliva at our dojo. Antonio is currently coaching the national team of Ukraine and has coached the best karate fighters in the world including Agyhev. It was a great couple of nights training and offered a great opportunity for our elite athletes to train with one of the world leaders in karate.

I recently had the honour and pleasure of coaching the Australian University athletes in Japan for the World Uni Champs. Outstanding results with 3 bronze medal playoffs and a silver medal for Mitchell Durham in -84kg (from WA). Congratulations to Caleb Dooley from our dojo (architecture student from QUT) who was part of the mens team that achieved a playoff for bronze.

Congratulations to all the 18 Seiha athletes that completed at the Queensland karate state championships over the weekend. Our team came home with 19 Gold medals, 17 Silver medals and 7 Bronze medals – an awesome effort. Every athlete that competed came home with a medal which is an outstanding achievement. It demonstrates the commitment and effort that all of our athletes apply to their karate and training. Thank you also to Sensei Sean (refereeing) and Sensei Maki & Sensei Alan (officiating) and for volunteerng their time over the weekend to help run the tournament.
